Two-minute checks first
- Right website: the address bar should show
ssc.gov.in. Logins on look-alike sites or the old ssc.nic.in address won't work. - Right ID: the username is your Registration Number, not your roll number, Aadhaar or email.
- Right password: passwords are case-sensitive. Turn off Caps Lock and type the password instead of relying on saved auto-fill.
- Right timing: if you can log in but can't find something, it may simply not be released yet.
Official SSC candidate login. Log in with your Registration Number and password on ssc.gov.in.
Open SSC login (official SSC website, opens in a new tab)Find your problem: cause, fix, next step
Start with the row that matches what you see. These are the usual causes, not guarantees: if a fix doesn't work, move to the last column rather than repeating it.
| What you see | Likely cause | Safe fix | If it still fails |
|---|---|---|---|
| “Invalid username or password” | Roll number typed instead of Registration Number; old saved password; Caps Lock | Type the Registration Number and password by hand | Reset the password instead of guessing |
| Old login from ssc.nic.in rejected | Old-site accounts don't work on ssc.gov.in | Do a fresh One-Time Registration on ssc.gov.in | If you already did a new OTR, use that account's number |
| Don't know the Registration Number | Registration SMS or email lost | Search SMS and email, including spam | Use the forgotten-number option |
| OTP not arriving | DND or spam filter, wrong registered contact, delays near deadlines | Wait 2–3 minutes, check spam and DND, try a quieter time | Contact SSC if you no longer have that number or email |
| Captcha keeps failing | Misread characters or an expired captcha | Refresh the captcha and retype | Try another browser, with translation extensions off |
| Account locked | Too many wrong attempts | Stop retrying; wait | Reset through forgot password |
| Registration says your details already exist | You already have an SSC account | Recover that account; don't register again | See “already registered” |
| Page blank, spinning or timing out | Heavy traffic or browser cache | Another browser, clear site data, switch network | Try off-peak hours |
| Works on computer, not on phone (or the other way) | Browser, pop-up or download settings | Use the other device or an updated browser | Mobile login tips |
| Logged in but admit card or marks missing | Not released yet for your exam or date | Check the latest notice for the release date | Admit card not showing |
Forgot your SSC password
Password recovery happens on the official login page. SSC confirms your identity using the details you gave at One-Time Registration, and sends an OTP to your registered mobile or email.
- Open the SSC login from “Login or Register” on ssc.gov.in.
- Select the forgotten-password option shown on the login screen.
- Enter the details it asks for. Third-party guides describe fields such as the registered mobile or email and date of birth. Enter them exactly as at OTR.
- Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile or email.
- Set a new password following the rules shown, then log in again with your Registration Number and the new password.
If you no longer have the registered mobile and email, online reset may not be possible. Contact SSC through the helpdesk details on ssc.gov.in instead of creating a new registration.
Forgot your Registration Number
- Search your messages. Look in SMS and email (including spam) for the message SSC sent when you registered.
- Check past documents. Saved application PDFs and admit cards often show the Registration Number.
- Use the forgotten-number option on the login page. Guides describe it asking for details such as your permanent state and registered mobile or email, then an OTP. The number is shown or sent to you after verification. Screen labels can change, so follow what the page asks.
“Invalid username or password”
Go through these in order:
- Confirm you completed the first-login password change. If you registered recently, the auto-generated password only works once; after that only your new password does.
- Check you are using the ssc.gov.in account, not an old ssc.nic.in registration. Old credentials do not carry over — see why.
- Clear auto-fill. Browsers and password managers often insert an old saved password.
- Reset the password instead of trying more guesses.
Account locked after too many attempts
Repeated wrong passwords can lock an SSC account for security. Stop trying, wait, and use the forgot-password route to set a new password. SSC's own FAQs direct locked-account cases to the details registered at OTR for reset. If the lock persists, contact SSC.
OTP not received
- Wait two or three minutes before asking for a new OTP — requesting several in a row can make earlier ones invalid.
- Check that the phone has signal and that DND or a spam filter isn't blocking service messages.
- For the email OTP, look in Spam or Promotions.
- Close to deadlines, OTP delivery can lag. Try again at a quieter time.
- If the OTP goes to a number you no longer use, no retry will fix it: contact SSC.
Captcha keeps failing
Refresh for a new captcha rather than guessing unclear characters, check for confusing pairs such as 0/O and 1/l, and make sure the page hasn't been open long enough for the captcha to expire. Disable translation extensions that sometimes alter page text.
“Already registered” or details that don't match
If a fresh registration on ssc.gov.in is refused because your Class 10 or contact details are already in use, you almost certainly have an SSC account already, perhaps one someone else created for you. One candidate may hold only one account, so recover it with the forgotten-number and forgotten-password options rather than trying other details.
If the existing account was made with a mobile number or email you can't access, contact SSC with proof of identity. Don't create a second account with changed details: duplicate registrations can cause problems with your candidature.
Site slow, blank or timing out
The portal handles huge traffic around application deadlines, admit card releases and results. Busy-server errors usually clear on their own; repeated clicking makes it worse.
- Try another updated browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) or a private window.
- Clear the site's cache and cookies, then reload.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Try early morning or late night.
- Above all, don't leave applications or slot selection to the last day.
Logging in on a phone
- The website works in a phone browser. Keep the browser updated, and allow downloads for ssc.gov.in so admit card PDFs can save.
- Avoid in-app browsers (links opened inside WhatsApp, Telegram or Instagram). Open ssc.gov.in in Chrome or Safari directly.
- Rotate to landscape or zoom out if a button sits off-screen.
- SSC's mySSC Android app (Google Play) uses the same account. SSC's notices allow applications through it (Phase XIV notice (opens in a new tab), §11.2). Install it only from Google Play under the Staff Selection Commission's name.
- If something fails on the phone, try a computer before assuming your account is the problem.
Logged in but details look wrong
If your OTR shows incorrect details, check which fields your account lets you modify. SSC has also opened OTR edit windows, such as one in August 2025 for personal, educational and category details. Watch for such notices.
For an application already submitted, wait for that exam's correction window. In the CGL 2026 (opens in a new tab) and GD 2026 (opens in a new tab) notices, the window lasted three days, allowed two resubmissions, and charged ₹200 for the first and ₹500 for the second. Other exams can differ. Keep screenshots of errors in case you need to contact SSC.
When to contact SSC
Contact SSC when you have tried the self-service options and still can't access your account, when you no longer have your registered mobile and email, or when you see an error message about your candidature.
- Toll-free helpline: SSC's notices list 1800 309 3063 for difficulty with the online application (for example the CGL 2026 notice (opens in a new tab), cover page). Check the current notice in case it changes.
- Other contacts: the helpdesk details published on ssc.gov.in, or your regional office for exam-centre matters.
- Have ready: your Registration Number, the exam name and a screenshot of the error. Never send your password or OTP.
Watch for scams. No genuine SSC staff, coaching institute or website needs your password or OTP to “fix” your login. Anyone asking for them, or charging to “unlock” your account, is not acting for SSC.
