What SSC self-slot selection is
Traditionally SSC allotted every candidate an exam city, date and shift. In 2025 the Commission introduced a self-slot selection facility for some exams: during a short window, you log in and choose a city (from the three you listed in your application), plus a date and shift with seats available.
Candidates often search for this as “SSC slot booking” or “SSC exam city login”. It is the same facility.
Where it has been used: SSC announced self-slot selection for the Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) exam 2025, Junior Engineer (JE) Paper 1 2025 and the Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and CAPFs (CPO) exam 2025. Whether it applies to your exam depends on that exam's notice.
Why you must not miss the window
For CHSL 2025, SSC's notice said candidates who did not choose a slot in the window would be treated as not intending to appear. For JE 2025, SSC later warned that candidates who still didn't select a city would not have an admit card generated. For JE and CPO 2025, SSC did give a one-time second chance through the Feedback Module in the candidate login, with city allotted on a best-effort basis — but that was an exception, not a promise.
Treat the slot window like an application deadline.
How slot selection has worked in the candidate login
This is how SSC described the process for 2025 exams. Read the notice for your exam, because the screens can change.
Official SSC candidate login. Log in with your Registration Number and password on ssc.gov.in.
Open SSC login (official SSC website, opens in a new tab)- Log in during the announced window with your Registration Number and password.
- Open “My Application” and find the exam.
- Select the option to choose city, exam date and shift. Read the instructions shown.
- Pick a city from the three you chose when applying, then a date, then check the slot details.
- Choose an available shift and confirm. The chosen shift was highlighted on screen in 2025.
- Save a screenshot of the confirmation for your records.
For 2025 exams SSC said a confirmed slot could not be changed later. Check your exam calendar, travel and any clashes with other exams before confirming.
If all slots in your cities are full
For CHSL 2025, candidates whose three cities were full were shown a list of alternative cities with availability. SSC said it would place such candidates in the chosen city on a best-effort basis, without a guaranteed date or shift. Choose early in the window for the widest choice.
What comes next
- City intimation slip. SSC releases a slip through the login showing your exam city and date. SSC's notices say city and centre details are uploaded about 10 days before the exam (CHSL 2026 notice (opens in a new tab), §14.4).
- Admit card. Closer to your exam date, the admit card with the exact venue and reporting time appears in the login. See the admit card guide.
Slot selection FAQs
Is slot booking available for every SSC exam?
No. It is announced exam by exam. If your exam notice or a later SSC notice doesn't mention it, SSC allots the slot as usual.
Can I pick a city I didn't list in my application?
Normally you choose from the three cities in your application. In 2025, alternative cities were offered only when all three were full.
Does choosing a slot give me my admit card?
No. Slot selection sets your city, date and shift. The city slip and admit card are released separately through your login.
